Jacobsen launches TurfCat rotary mower

Jacobsen, a Textron Company, launched its TurfCat out-front rotary mower. The multi-purpose machine provides the lowest cost of ownership in its class, according to the company, and features an all-hydraulic deck and traction drives.

The new TurfCat costs less to maintain because it has no gear box, belts, pulleys, drive shaft or clutch to service. It has 15 fewer grease points and 212 fewer service parts compared to competitive products, Jacobsen says.

The TurfCat also offers nine different deck configurations and five attachments for year-round use. Attachments include a blower, dozer blade, hydraulic broom, snow blower and 60-inch fine cut flail deck. The flail deck’s fine-cut blades discharge grass and debris into the turf, reducing the danger of thrown projectiles. The company says the unit’s double-edged blades stay sharper longer than rotary blades, further reducing cost of ownership and maintenance.

“The new TurfCat is a response to customer feedback we’ve gathered from the field,” says Bryan Holby, product manager at Jacobsen. “With labor and equipment budgets continuing to shrink, turf maintenance staffs are looking for equipment that is easier and cheaper to maintain. The new TurfCat requires significantly less daily maintenance — operators can simply hop off and move to the next job. That alone can save hundreds of dollars a year.”
