When the 2025 PGA Championship tees off at Quail Hollow Club, the fairways will showcase a new custom perennial rygrass blend on top of the expert course maintenance.

Pure Seed, a family-owned company from Oregon’s Willamette Valley, is behind the blend selected for the event, and the company states it reflects more than 50 years of developments in the turfgrass industry. Chosen for its durability, disease resistance and ability to thrive in North Carolina’s unpredictable spring climate, this seed is based on decades of research and field testing, according to the company.

Working closely with Quail Hollow’s superintendent, Keith Wood, Pure Seed Testing’s director of research, Melodee Fraser, identified ryegrass varieties that could maintain elite playing conditions even under extreme heat and heavy foot traffic. With a development timeline that can span up to 20 years, Pure Seed’s blend aims to provide beauty and performance at the PGA Championship.
