The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) (https://www.gcsaa.org/) Foundation hit a significant milestone during its annual Health in Action 5K/2K event in San Diego. The run, held on Feb. 4 in conjunction with the GCSAA Conference and Trade Show, raised $10,000 for the foundation’s initiatives.

A last-minute contribution of $20 pushed the total to the five-figure mark just before the race began. The event, now in its eighth year, saw a full roster with 250 runners and walkers participating.

According to GCSAA, the addition of a non-timed 2K run/walk option broadened the event’s appeal, making it more inclusive for participants of varying fitness levels.

GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans highlighted the importance of the partnership with Syngenta (https://www.syngenta.com/) in making the event possible. “Syngenta has undoubtedly helped shape and advance the future of the turfgrass management industry,” Evans stated.

Since its inception, the Health in Action event has raised more than $63,000 for the GCSAA Foundation. These funds support research, education, advocacy and community outreach efforts within the golf course management sector.

“This remarkable achievement underscores the power of coming together for a cause that benefits both individual well-being and the broader golf profession,” Stephanie Schwenke, turf market Manager at Syngenta, said.

The GCSAA added that, as the golf industry emphasizes sustainability and community engagement, events like the Health in Action 5K/2K demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional growth.
