LokSand Global launched its soil stabilization product, LokSand, in North America. The company has also opened a representative office in Jupiter, Fla., to support its operations and serve industry stakeholders.

Danny Potter, president of LokSand Global and a former course superintendent with decades of experience across Asia-Pacific, announced the product’s first U.S. installation at Miakka Golf Club near Sarasota, Fla. Designed by Fry-Straka Global Golf Design, Miakka GC is pioneering Australian Sandbelt-style bunkers in the region using LokSand technology.

According to the company, LokSand distinguishes itself through its interlocking crimped fibers that stabilize soil and sand profiles, particularly on steep bunker faces prone to erosion during heavy rainfall. This addresses long-standing issues for golf course superintendents, contractors and architects, including poor turf quality in high-traffic areas such as cart-path entry points, walkways and green exits.

According to Potter, the product enables the construction of steep bunker faces — up to 3 feet high — that remain stable without compromising drainage or percolation. Additionally, LokSand can be mixed with existing soils and sands onsite, eliminating the need for costly imported materials.

The company adds that LokSand’s capabilities have been tested in the Asia-Pacific regions known for their challenging climates. During a renovation at Singapore Island Country Club in 2023 led by architect Graham Marsh, erosion issues threatened bunker construction until LokSand was introduced. Marsh noted that the bunkers held firm even after heavy rains typical of equatorial Southeast Asia.

At Miakka Golf Club, LokSand enables bunker designs with exposed soil layers up to 80-degree angles that resist erosion during Florida’s torrential storms. The technology also supports aesthetic choices by allowing architects to mix darker soil profiles onsite for striking visual contrasts between turf and sand edges.

Potter emphasized that the industry is still discovering new applications for LokSand beyond bunkers — from reinforcing waste areas to stabilizing native scrub zones during construction without compromising their natural appearance. These advancements could reshape how courses are built and maintained across diverse environments.

“North American architects are going to love LokSand… Using it creates an edge that remains in place for years to come,” Potter added.
